Basic Television setup question?

Rosio Pasculli: Read the manual! What do you expect to see without a source? What leads you to believe that you don't need an antenna? Read the manual for crying out loud!

Mauro Cowee: Well, it sounds like you're lacking a source. Do you have a satellite television media provider?(like dish or direct tv), do you have a land line television service provider? (cable, like comcast), or are you planning on enjoying free air broadcast television? (Local radio transmittion television) besides a dvd/blu-ray/VCR/whatever else, you need to connect your source to your tv, and then probably go into the tv menu, name that connection, and select it. You'll want to use the best technology available in your connection. HDMI takes care of everything, but obviously there would have to be an out from your source to an in on your tv. The services supply a tuner/box which will usually have HDMI ports on it. If not, the next best is dvi, vga, and component(the cables you already connect! ed to your tv) With these 3, you also need to bring the audio on a separate line. SPDIF TOSLINK optical is the best, followed by "digital audio coax" with regular RCA cables coming in last. If you're not renting a box, you'll need a digital power antennae. If your tv has a digital tuner built in, you should be able to set up the antennae(they're usually small plastic plate or dish size structures you can position in the room) plug it in to your tv (might have to be rg6 coax cable connection, which carries audio and video) usually those antennae come with a small in-line signal amplifier. Hook it up and you should be good to go! good luck...Show more
