Janeen Perona: It is an obsession, literally termed as Addiction.Mainly those who are free and without any work have no work that to be in front of screen 24/7. Mainlt the teens and students have this habit. I too had but as one grows, it starts decreasing.
Hyo Hardell: no, because your body does not become actually addicted to it or in need of it, like other drugs like heroin or nicotine. So it is not an addiction, it is a habit. Habits and addictions have a fine line in between them because addictions become habits, but habits are not all addictions. Some habits are addictions and some are just habits. But again addiction and habits almost become the same thing at one point. When you feel you NEED to do something, it is no longer a habit, but an addiction. That is where the line is drawn. Just as there are gambling addictions, there are television addictions, but one must remember that there is a line between habit and addiction. This line is often foggy as it is h! ard to diagnose even today. Logan Bero: I think there is. It's an addiction when someone chooses to watch TV over being in contact with other people. The person can withdraw from others. The world of the television may be an escape so the person' won't have to face his or her own struggles. Good Luck with your research.
Cassey Hollinghurst: "Addiction" is a psychological process, where you use something in an unhealthy way instead of using healthy coping processes. A common definition is that your patterns of use cause problems in your life."Dependency" is the physical process where a drug gives you tolerance as you use and withdrawal if you stop. Some people have disagreements around these terms, but these are pretty standard in addiction science. There is also a lot of evidence that ps! ychological addiction processes have a chemical component, so ! there may be some physical dependency component even for things like TV addiction. This is a tricky area, but it's safe to say there's a huge gap between TV withdrawals and heroin or nicotine withdrawals. There are treatment programs for addiction to TV, Internet, gaming, sex, food and others. You can become addicted to anything that can distract you from your problems. If you're writing a paper, you need to be clear about what your terms mean. Addiction, as defined in my post, is more than a "habit." It has a compulsive component and is part of your coping behavior. Picking your nose is a habit, but it's not a strategy for dealing with your psychological or emotional problems. Watching TV all day *can* be a way to regulate your emotions and thoughts, so it can be an addiction....Show more
