New to home theater (HTIB) with HDMI questions?

Faviola Dewire: YES! you are absolutely right. receivers act as both audio and video hubs. you plug your receiver into the surround sound system and then to the tv. anything else you want to put on your tv plugs into the recivier and is put into surround sound.(BTW HDMI is both audio and video so its just the one cord

Clinton Migliori: "Do I simply have an HDMI going from each into the receiver's inputs, then another HDMI going from the receiver's output to my TV?'''Yes."On that note, am I to assume that channeling the DVR through the receiver means my normal TV channels will be in surround sound?"Yes, though not all channels are broadcast in surround, but they will still play through the home theater.Be aware that some entry level receivers do not process HDMI audio, They are sometimes called audio pass-through receivers, and they require additional cables to be connected for surround audio.A 3D ready or 3D pass-through receiver is a good thing, it can pass 3D ! HDMI output to a 3D TV and also process HDMI audio. So if you think you will eventually get a 3D TV, then you may want to get a 3D ready receiver....Show more
