Shawnna Kusky: yes, yes and yes and yes.usually a hybrid will start and predominately run on electricity. Gas may be used for longer trips and harder roads (i.e. hills, etc). I think* they have the option of running on gas or electricity at any point. It used to be one way only, but the technology has grown.research the manufacturers websites about the hybrid vehicles. surprisingly they are more reliable sounding than you would think....Show more

The "mild" hybrids that uses an electric motor only to assist the gasoline engine such as Honda's hybrids or GM's BAS hybrids (Saturn Vue Green Line or Chevy Malibu Hybrid) cannot move on electric power alone.The Power Split Device hybrids can move on electric alone. These include the Toyota, Lexus, Ford and Nissan hybrids, and they can drive about 2 miles on electric a! lone after running out of gas.You don't want to do that though, at least not intentionally. Running down the battery is bad for its health.FYI all hybrids sold in the U.S. have an 8-year / 100,000-mile warranty on their batteries.
