What are felons rights concerning higher education?

Pamela Meno: Firstly, I am a felon; I have also obtained a degree in management, business finance, and currently am working on a BS in Chemical Engineering; and I also run a forum for felons regarding topics such as this at http://www.felonsforum.comTo answer your question, higher education is not something that can be removed as an option for felons. However, funding for higher education is another issue all together.Although, there is no law that states a felon can't better themselves and obtain an education, there are laws which the federal gov has put in place which restricts felons convicted of "drug" related crimes from obtaining federal funding for their education; however, there are still ways to gain funding through private organizations and private grants, also there are loans which will be awarded regardless of the persons conviction. There are tons of information on the site which I listed, especially regarding this topic. Feel free to join and explore the boar! d. If you still have a question you can always open a new topic and post your question there. I'm certain you'll find an answer.Best of wishes,H...Show more

Rickey Vrieze: They have no "rights" to higher education. They can either take classes in jail if that's where they are, or if they're released from jail they can apply at college like everybody else. If they have felony convictions if will make it very difficult to get subsidized loans so they will have to get private loans most likely.
