Is my camera a DSLR, canon power shot SX40 HS?

Mark Villifana: No. The lens is not removable, without excessive force(hammer).

Lanita Reichman: Your SX40HS is a bridge camera.DSLR stands for Digital Single Lens Reflex. This is a camera that uses a single lens and by means of a moveable mirror can send the image either to a viewfinder or to the sensor - the mirror is the reflex. Note that I made no mention of interchangeable lenses, the reason being that while every DSLR I can think of has interchangeable lens capability, it's not a feature that defines a camera as being a DSLR!...Show more

Madlyn Fallis: No. The viewfinder uses an LCD display. A DSLR type camera has an optical viewfinder.Lenses on a DSLR are interchangeable. DSLRs generally have a sensor crop factor of 1.5 or 1.0x. This camera has a crop factor of apx. 5.6.However, you do have manual, aperture, and shutter priority modes which makes this an advanced point & shoot....Show more

Mack Ukich: No it is not.http://www.galttech.com/researc! h/digital-cameras/d...Also notice the specs for the SX40HShttp://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/ca...Compact digital camera with built-in flash, 35x Optical & 4x Digital & 140x Combined Zoom with Optical Image Stabilizer Systemcompare that with the specs for the Canon Rebel T3http://www.usa.canon.com/cusa/consumer/products/ca...Digital, AF/AE single-lens reflex, camera with built-in flash...Show more

Giovanni Malool: Yes it is.

Keven Drumgole: No it's a bridge camera (which is a compact camera with manual control of exposure but not interchangeable lenses).

Rashad Marecki: You probably have the advantage of a pro, you will be capable to produce marketable pics, however you are going to have some challenges * the SX40 has a sensor that is 15 instances smaller than a dSLR (diminished resolution and terrible low light efficiency) * you can not manually control and stability ISO, shutter velocity and lens aperture * you've got best the lens that came! permanently hooked up to the digicam, so that you should not ! have entry to interchangeable lenses, fisheye to tremendous telephoto * shutter lag can intent missed opportunities when shooting items. When you see a first-class expression, the shutter can be a full second before it opens and takes the shot. You should have noticed this already * show as much as a legit venture with a P&S camera and you may find your consumer determining to rent any individual else, anybody with a dSLR...Show more

Ramona Pago: Ryan is mistaken, it is a bridge camera. A DSLR is defined (among other things) by having an interchangeable lens and an optical viewfinder. The SX40 has neither, the lens is fixed and the viewfinder is electronic (an LCD display).
