Does any one knows about Aircraft carrier?

Rachell Meese: i think they use steam to push the front wheel of a jet to propel it off the deck, but those new carriers use their nuclear system to do it. And i think carriers have three or more wires spanning across the end of the deck and planes have hooks. when the plane comes in too land the pilot attempts to latch onto one of the wires to slow and stop the plane from falling off the other side.

Elfreda Grossen: Catapults.Today's steam driven catapults propel jets from 0 to 160 miles per hour in just three seconds.Wires.Usually a series of four super-strong steel wires which the tailhook of the plane "grabs" as it makes its landing on the deck....Show more

Curt Broadhead: What CharlesD said is correct they use a steam catapult to launch the aircraft and arresting cables to catch the aircraft as it lands on the deck.

Troy Staton: It uses a steam catapult to launch the aircraft. Basically, the aircraft's front landing wheel is grabbed by a vise on ! the deck, and the vise is propelled by steam at a high rate of accelleration and speed to fling the aircraft off the deck. As for the recovery system, there is a series of wires stretched across the deck and the aircraft has a hook hanging underneath. As it approaches and lands on the deck, the "arresting hook" grabs the wires adn jerks the plane to a halt....Show more

Hope Lundmark: Aircraft are shot off an aircraft carrier by a steam catapult. They are caught by a giant cable which they put out a tail hook to catch, that is connected to a giant shock absorber.

Stanton Valdivia: 1. pushing aircraft down the runway is done by using a steam catapult which rapidly accelerates the plane down the runway;2. a steel cable is used to catch the tailhook on a returning plane to arrest it's momentum.
