Looking for funding/grants for startups nonprofits in the performing arts - minority, 501c?

Sharolyn Claybourn: You will want a government backed grant... check out:

Donnell Mollo: www.fastweb.com

Todd Stogner: Not sure where you are located, but here are couple of links to begin with.

Estrella Northway: Your best bet is to seek for private grants or grants from private foundations. The best resource for this is Foundation Center http://www.fdncenter.org . They have a very good database covering all organizations giving grants and you can find foundations that are interested in supporting your type of cause. However, it's a subscription based website ($19.95 per month I think is the cheapest subscription price). But it certainly is worth the fee. You can subscribe one month, and make sure you get all the info you need and then stop the subscription. If you want to try federal sources, you can go to the Catalog of Federal Domestic Assistance (CFDA) http://www.cfda.gov and Grants.gov http://www.grants.gov - these are two sites created by the federa! l government to provide transparency and information on grants. CFDA has several ways to search for grants. I suggest you search by beneficiary and select Private Non Profit Organization and you can find listings of grants available http://12.46.245.173/pls/portal30/CATALOG.BROWSE_B......Show more

Comment enlever Xanthelasma

Comment enlever Xanthelasma

delete browser history?

Basil Blasingame: If you are using Internet Explorer do not just click on history and delete, yes you are deleting it but there are still traces of everything you have viewed on your computer. If you want to completely delete everything then click on tools ->internet options -> delete files (this will take a minute or two) -> then click on settings next to delete files -> then click on view files -> and there is everything you have ever visited on the internet. It will take a while to delete everything from there....Show more

Iris Shawcroft: That depends on what type of browser you are using. Windows Internet go to "TOOLS" and Select "Options" under the tab "General" at the bottom you will find your settings for History. You can select History or set the settings to how ever long you want. You can also click on the clock on your tool bar and delete what you want from that pull down screen. If you are using Mozilla Firefox your history is under "Go" or select Co! ntrol H. You can delete the days and items that you want, it is not nearly as simple as Windows but you can do it....Show more

How far back do you think that genealogy is accurate?

Dorethea Beaston: I read a story on a local online newspaper recently, about a local guy that claimed he had traced his ancestry back to various people over 1000 years ago including Boadicea. My reaction - disbelief. Here in England, we have parish records that go back at the earliest to 1538. We have census that go back to 1841. We have state registers that go back to 1837. Most people here can therefore trace their ancestry back safely maybe 100 - 350 years. You may well encounter aristocracy and through heraldric records go back as far as the 11th Century. But for most English ancestors - 100 to 350 years is it.Ok, how accurate? Well for one thing - genealogy is still about tracing surnames NOT genes. People cheat and lie. Every familiy has skeletons in closets....Show more

Douglass Sarley: this brings up a story about my mom, who wanted to search her ancestry. in the days before the internet, there were adverts in women's magazines about research servic! es. she sent in her money and what she got back was a page ripped out of the New York City phone book covering her family name. since her family came from Nebraska/Canada which she already knew from interviewing her grandfather, it is extremely unlikely that anyone in NYC was a relative.mom took great interest on how the internet was helpful for me to fill in some holes in our family line. but great caution does have to be employed, and occasionally i have gone down a garden path unexpectedly. Ancestry.com, a leader in this field is associated with the LDS church genealogy and ever once in a while i see where they make a random insert of a person into somebodies line, probably because of the pressure they are under by the church to demonstrate ancestry. i don't see any point in doing any work before the 1850 census, the first to name all non-slave household members. work before that is totally dependent on other researchers. my tree past 1850 is cut and paste except for ! my great aunts DAR application. i do look for obvious conflict! s but don't vouch for authenticity at that point....Show more

Letitia Bigelow: Online transcriptions with estimated dates.......... are not accurate if estimated are not real records if transcriptions.......Genealogy is about researching REAL RECORDS and documents and the ONLY real records online are the images of the actual record NOTHING else is verified and so it is not genealogy it is copy and paste transcriptions and lets pretend trees......... sorry but you asked.'Accurate' Genealogy is for each event in a persons life you have seen/have copies of at least 2 primary records ( I have at least 3 primary) each event means birth marriage death...so if you take death 3 primary records could be death cert, parish burial record and Will and secondary records could be obituary, tombstone...........the further you get back the harder it is to find the records and prior to 1750 ish it is VERY difficult and without detailed records office research you legitimately can'! t get back prior to that................even parish records are very limited prior to this, it is possible in some circumstances to get back further but generally not before 1550 unless there is a succession of very rich who left wills or a succession of rogues...both unlikely and even then only if there are real records and those records involve connecting family information another thing that is highly unlikely................If you have only evr done copy and paste online then your tree will not be correct and one wrong person in your tree means the whole tree prior is wrong....... wikipedia is nothing to do with research it is not a resourcewww.celtic-casimir.com no cites, IGI informtion a typical lets pretend online tree and the geni is exactly the same............ unfortunately newbies think that online is the way you 'research' and it isn't, the trees showing on those sites are not researched, not cited they are completed by people who want to show off and think gene! alogy is about getting back to silly dates........... to family histori! ans genealogy research is about proving each person in your tree and finding and proving their real ancestors.....so quality not quantity.............If you can PROVE your ancestors, each and every one of them then you have your tree, if you have never looked at real records and have no cited references, then your tree is a colection of unrelated names......................Show more

Brittney Inabnit: Accuracy of genealogy is UP TO YOU. You might copy an "online" posted tree, going back 600 yrs, and never know that it is full of mistakes. You COULD accept family stories that grandpa Jones was born in Texas, without ever going to the effort of getting his death certificate (or other documents) and never KNOW that he actually was born in Alabama, 2 months before his parents migrated to Dallas. As long as you DON'T KNOW what an original record is, and you rely on websites/ other persons for your "research"...there is no way to know what is correct or isn't. If you go to t! he effort of doing things the old fashioned/ hard way, and never accept any outside research, always get solid proof of ancestry, you MIGHT only go back 4 generations..but you will be absolutely sure of what is accurate or isn't. Good genealogy is about solid proof and good research methods. Not how far back you can get. (and the further back you supposedly get, using websites/posted trees, the HIGHER the odds that you are accepting erroneous info). So...HOW MANY original documents have you personally found? it will answer your own question....Show more

Roland Stampley: "How precise is the revealed version of your loved ones relatives tree?" You gotta take all those issues with a grain of salt.... distinctly whilst it is the Male Line. The Jews have been given it ideal - everybody consistently is accustomed to who the mother replaced into. "How some distance returned in historic past does your revealed relatives tree flow?" returned to 724 advert... Charlemagne ;) ~

what genealogy site best to use?

Enriqueta Steffen: There are over 400,000 free genealogy sites. I have links to some huge ones, below, but you'll have to wade through some advice and warnings first. If you didn't mention a country, we can't tell if you are in the USA, UK, Canada or Australia. I'm in the USA and my links are for it. If you are in the USA, AND most of your ancestors were in the USA, AND you can get to a library or FHC with census access, AND you are whiteThen you can get most of your ancestors who were alive in 1850 with 100 - 300 hours of research. You can only get to 1870 if you are black, sadly. Many young people stop reading here and pick another hobby. No web site is going to tell you how your great grandparents decorated the Christmas tree with ornaments cut from tin foil during the depression, how Great Uncle Elmer wooed his wife with a banjo, or how Uncle John paid his way through college in the 1960's by smuggling herbs. Talk to your living relatives before it is too late. You won't! find living people on genealogy sites. You'll have to get back to people living in 1930 or so by talking to relatives, looking up obituaries and so forth. Finally, not everything you read on the internet is true. You have to be cautious and look at people's sources. Cross-check and verify. So much for the warnings. Here is the main link.http://www.tedpack.org/yagenlinks.htmlThat page has links, plus tips and hints on how to use the sites, for a dozen huge free sites. Having one link here in the answer and a dozen links on my personal site gets around two problems. First, Y!A limits us to 10 links in an answer. Second, if one or more of the links are popular, I get "We're taking a breather" when I try to post the answer. This is a bug introduced sometime in August 2008 with the "new look".You will need the tips. Just for instance, most beginners either put too much data into the RWWC query page, or they mistake the Ancestry ads at the top for the query form. I used to teach ! a class on Internet Genealogy at the library. I watched the mi! stakes beginners made. The query forms on the sites are NOT intuitive....Show more

Melina Minneweather: My answer is lengthy and I apologize for that but I want to warn you of the advantages and the pitfalls of genealogy on the internet. So I have cut and am pasting an answer. Here is a link to various websites, some free, some not.http://www.progenealogists.com/top50genealogy2008....Websites that only have family trees are not worth a tinker's curse unless you are willing to verify the information with documents/records. They are subscriber submitted, very seldom documented and if they are they are poorly documented. You frequently will see the different info on the same people from different subscribers. Then you will see the absolute same info on the same people from different subscribers but you would be very foolish if you thought for one moment that that means it is correct. A lot of people copy without verifying. The information can be useful as clues only as to! where to get the documentation.Right before Christmas of 2008, I found out I was dead. So was my sister and my brother-in-law. We died in New Jersey. Since the only time my sister and I were ever in New Jersey is when our family drove through it coming from New York in 1957. It was the same year Hurricane Audrey hit in our part of the world. Hey! we had been dead for 51 years. It says so on the internet. It has to be right if it is on the internet!I found out that family on both sides married and died in New Jersey. Since my ancestry is mostly southern American colonial with some exceptions and those exceptions came in through southern ports, I was surprised. This tree would have been accepted by any genealogy website. You can make up an entirely fictitious family tree and it will be accepted. You disagree with something someone has on one of your family members, the websites will tell you that it is between you and the other subscriber. This subscriber had almost 150,000 na! mes in her family tree. There are too many people with trees on the int! ernet that think it is more important to get as many names as possible rather than have a good verifiable family tree. They copy info from other family trees, perhaps on their inlaws. Then they find inlaws of their inlaws and go crazy. One website, genealogy.com use to encourage people to merge other people's family trees into theirs. That is downright sloppy genealogy. Now the best for the total amount of records online isn't free but your public library might have a subscription to it. That is Ancestry.Com. Still be careful about the information in their family tree, particularly their One World Tree program. If you have been into Ancestry.Com, you might have an option at the top to "switch back to old search." I find it much better, then to the right when you are under search you can pick categories to search under.CyndisList.com is a website with links to many other websites, some free and some not. Many people involved in genealogy find it helpful. Not all records are on! line but the ones you will find will save you time and money traveling to courthouses, libraries etc. However your first free source is your own family. Get information from them. Tape your senior members if they will let you. People who do this state they go back and listen to the tape again after doing research and hear things they didn't hear the first time around. I am not saying they won't be confused or wrong on some things.Find out if anybody in your family has any old family bibles. Ask to see and make copies of birth, marriage and death certificates. Depending on the religious faith, baptismal, first communion, confirmation and marriage certificates from their church can be helpful.A good free source is a Family History Center at a Latter Day Saints(Mormon) Church. They have records on people all over the world, not just Mormons. In Salt Lake City, they have the world's largest genealogical collection. Their FHCs can order microfilm for you to view at a nominal fee.! They won't try to convert you, at least they haven't done so to me or a! nyone else that I know. Just call the nearest Mormon Church or visit their free website, FamilySearch.org, to get their hours for the general public.Rootsweb and FamilySearch.org are 2 free sites but remember verify information in family trees with documents/records. If you don't you don't know whether it is accurate or not. Also be wary of any website, merchant in a mall or at airport selling so called "family crest." A crest is part of a coat of arms. Coats of arms do not belong to surnames. There are clan badges in Scotland. However, any coat of arms granted by the Lord Lyon of Scotland or the College of Arms in London belongs to one man and one man alone. The family history that comes with them will not be the family history of everyone with the same surname....Show more
